The current issue of the Pilots Association Journal focuses on the prolonged period of war that began on the terrible day of October 7, 2023, and has yet to come to an end. Since my primary professional focus in recent years has been flight safety, alongside my work as a simulator examiner, I chose to write about the subject of flight safety during wartime.

The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) has issued an important position paper detailing the effects of operating in conflict zones on human performance, including cognitive overload, extreme fatigue, and navigation disruptions. The document emphasizes the importance of preserving the captain’s ultimate authority over commercial pressures and warns against the gradual normalization of dangerous operating conditions.
